Thank
you Francisco and Stacey! From the staff behind the counter, the
instructors who teach, to the other students who are there to learn,
you have succeeded in creating a wonderful environment with an amazing
group of people. There is something very special happening with The
Dance Family, and I am happy to be apart of it.
Hi, I stopped in yesterday to purchase your 10-disk DVD set. The DVDs are excellent--high quality with good step-by-step detail. My friend and I would like to sign up for Salsa 1 classes. Thanks!
Hi
Stacey,
I
absolutely love the class! Francisco is a wonderful instructor-
he provides instruction in a manner and context that makes sense to
someone like me, one who has no dance training and finds learning
steps a struggle. Thanks for what has been an absolutely
fabulous experience so far! I look forward to the rest of the
classes and will certainly continue with other classes in the future. Hi Francisco and Stacey! I just wanted to let you both know how happy I am with my FSDP experience to date. To be honest, when I initially signed up for Salsa 1 and Latin Club Dance classes at PCC, I thought it would just be a fun way to spend some time on Saturday afternoons. I never really thought about continuing on after those sessions ended. When it came time to choose whether to continue on to Salsa 2, I decided to go with it, but I still didn't think much beyond that. But I have to tell you, I'm glad I switched over to your classes at the Dance House, because I now know that I want to continue on all the way to level 5 (assuming I'm invited to, of course)! Rather than just taking the one lesson on Saturdays, armed with my Golden Ticket, I now take as many classes on both Tuesdays and Fridays as my feet and the rest of my body will let me; this includes taking Level 1 classes again. Francisco had suggested doing that at the end of the PCC series, but I didn't seriously see the need. Now, as I'm taking Level 2 and having the opportunity to dance with - and get tips from - really accomplished dancers on staff like Sergio, Salud and Fernando (who are all also amazing people, as if you didn't know that already), I see that repeating Level 1 is a fabulous opportunity to practice the finer points of style and technique. Besides, it's just plain fun to keep on dancing! What's really great too is how much I'm beginning to feel like part of a family. I'm getting to know some of the regulars at the Dance House, and they're all so nice! Even though I miss the people I saw every week at PCC, I still get to see some of them once in a while at the Friday night practice dances. Anyway, I just wanted to share my excitement with you (Stacey noted tonight that I have a tendency to be a bit chatty in class, and she's right; but I hope you take it as a compliment, because that is just enthusiasm bubbling over). Thanks for bringing out the dancer in me! Marianne

Hello
Francisco and Stacey:
Hi
Francisco! Hi Stacey! (and hi to baby too!))
Hi
Guys,
Feedback
from our PCC Students from Spring Semester (1999):
Dear Stacey and Francisco: You asked me a while ago to put down on paper my thoughts concerning your classes. I've finally found the time to do so. Here they are. The beginning point of my analysis is to acknowledge why students take dance classes. I think that most, if not all, take dance classes primarily so that they can dance outside of dance classes. They also wish to have a good time while learning. The reasons that people attend your classes (even when they have to come from Chatsworth or West Hills or other far off places) is the unrivaled package of learning that you two offer. First, your foundational approach of lead/follow is an excellent approach. Your tutelage has fully entrenched me in the concept of the man as the leader taking care of the woman. Second, you are excellent teachers. It is apparent that you have a wealth of knowledge and understanding about what you teach, but that, alone, does not make a good teacher. You also know how to teach others to progress in their own dancing. You have an understanding of how to take students step by step through the learning process. You especially have a gifting in breaking down a dance pattern into its essential basic parts and finding a way to take the class as a whole through each step. This is a technique which may seem an obvious necessity of teaching, but my experience with other teachers shows that it is difficult to implement. You also offer individual attention to developing each class member's ability to perform the dance taught. In contrast, my other classes were generally taught by leading the class members through repetitive pattern drills, with little attention to addressing each individual's needs. Additionally, you have a unique talent for assessing and explaining the most important points of improvement for each individual. You possess that skill in a measure far greater than other dance instructors. Furthermore, you accomplish this in way which is not perceived by the student as judgmental or threatening. You know your students and what they can and want to handle. Third, as I've said before, you are good people. I, for one, find it valuable to be around people I respect, and I respect you. I know that others feel the same way. Fourth, you have an obvious genuine love for what you are doing and desire to see your students improve. Your concern and enthusiasm manifest that teaching is much more than a job to you. Fifth, you are accomplished dancers. No small part of the pleasure of taking your class is watching you perform the movements which you are teaching. Sixth, you are real and accessible. A testament to that is the fact that you requested that I offer my suggestions for improvement for your classes. Now, I wish to discuss some of the recent changes you have made to the class. Overall comment: as a whole, they are great! First, teaching a class cycle through the use of a routine aids in the memory of the patterns we have learned and also challenges us to perfect each move of that routine as we progress through it. Second, upping the level of instruction has energized the class. The more complicated salsa patterns, new basic salsa steps, jazz movements, and body control lessons have been a blast. This kind of instruction in higher levels of dance patterns and technique have not only energized the class, but also upped the ante on what the class now expects of its development. I, personally, find it both challenging and fun (especially the jazz movements which are totally new to me). Third, by offering both Salsa 1 and Salsa 2, you have found the perfect balance between addressing the needs of new students and those who are advancing beyond the beginner stage. Fourth, at least for this new session, you have concentrated on one form of dance (thankfully, salsa). This will allow the desire in your students to be able to dance outside of dance class to be accomplished more quickly. I personally hope that you continue to concentrate on one dance form. I know that offering only short-term instruction in a dance form before changing to another (e.g., tango then east coast swing then west coast swing) was frustrating not only for me, but for some others in class, because it left us short of the goal of being able to dance outside of the class. Fifth, I find the idea of actually practicing to perform intriguing. It certainly adds to the desire to learn. I'm not sure where you are headed with this idea, but even if we never actually perform, learning an entire performance routine is fun and useful in and of itself. I still remember in my head every move of the dances I was taught for Night of One Thousand Stars. In contrast, the only way I can remember all the patterns I have been taught in the various classes I have been taught over the years is by keeping a list of them on my computer. Sixth, setting up events where we can go to dance is extremely important. Remember, dancing outside of the classes is the reason why we are taking the classes! The Catalina event and the times at Sportsman Lodge were helpful in aiding us to get together outside of class while meeting members of your other classes and dancers outside of your classes. I thought for a while about changes you could make which would be useful. After all, that was what your main request. Frankly, with all the changes you've recently made, I couldn't think of any. I know this sounds ingenuous, but it is true. Finally, I've said before, I wish to be of assistance to you in any way I can. In
